SOME CATS WE HAVE HELPED
|
We are
constantly in need of people who can foster cats and kittens for
us to be able to continue rescuing. Like a lot of rescue
organisations we have reached saturation point, and this is
heart breaking when we have to say sorry, we are full.
If you have
never fostered before you will be wondering what it entails.
Being a fosterer means looking after a cat or kittens till we
can find a forever home for them.
The condition of the cats and kittens we take in, take many
forms. Sometimes they just needs a lot of love, some are in need
of medication while they get over an illness or
mistreatment.
We would never give you an unsuitable cat to foster, for
example, if you are out all day at work we would not expect you
to care for a cat that needed medication or feeding every four
hours. If you have an active household a nervous cat would not
be suitable.
We would also take into account where the cat would be living
while with you, if you were going to care for it in a spare room
because you already have a cat who would not tolerate a house
mate or some other similar reason, or if it would be part of
your household.
We have to be honest and say that parting with a cat you have
cared for can pull on the heart strings, but what you can be
assured of is that our homing officer will have made sure that
kitty is going to a suitable home with all the boxes
ticked.
The reward is knowing that you have played a big part in giving
kitty a new start in life, and providing the new owner with a
new family member and also that you can then take in the next
little soul needing help.
The main
requirement to foster is that you have a genuine love of cats,
the rest we can help you with.
We will provide the food, the bedding, cat litter and cover all
the vet bills. You will never be left alone to fend for
yourself, we are a small group, slightly nuts but friendly and
we are there to help you with any help or advice you might need
while fostering.
We are always just at the end of the phone if you need anything
and we also have regular get togethers at our Homing Officer's
place (food provided!) where we make sure everyone is up to
speed on what's going on and discuss any ongoing things such as
fund raising, problem cats etc. Attending the meetings is not
compulsory, but once you have been to one, you wont want to miss
any others.
If you think you
could help us, or your still not sure, then you can contact us
for an informal chat and go through the pros and cons with you,
and answer any questions you might have. We promise we will not
try to talk you into doing something you have any doubts about.
