KEIGHLEY CAT CARE
SUCCESS STORIES

THANKS
We would like to say THANK YOU to the following people for all their help

We want to make a special mention of Emma Benn for her hard work doing a sponsored walk and the Yorkshire Building Society where she works for their outstanding generosity in providing funding for new cat traps, holding pen, scanners etc.

Of course, a huge thank you to all those hundreds of people who have adopted our cats and kittens – many of whom stay in touch and send us photographs of their progress and those who regularly send donations to keep us afloat.

This handsome boy had really fallen on hard times and was living rough. A very kind lady took him in to care for until she could find him a home. It wasn't too long before his luck changed yet again for the better and he now has a fabulous new home of his own. The family have children so there was an anxious moment to see how he would react to them but they needn't have worried. He absolutely loved all the attention and just lapped up all the stroking and cuddling. Another happy outcome. Our thanks to Lynne for her kindness and compassion in taking him in the first place.

A much appreciated thank you card. Very comforting to know that they are settling in so well and being spoilt rotten.

This is Suki wearing her special “coat”. Suki had an injury on her back which wouldn’t heal as she was constantly licking at it. The usual Elizabethan collars weren’t working as she was terrified of them and she became very depressed. The suit which Suki is wearing was the perfect answer. She was comfortable in it, quite relaxed and unable to reach the wound to irritate it. Subsequently she  healed up well. The suits comes in different sizes and has an opening at the tail so does not have to be removed for normal toileting functions. Sylvia at Dermapetwear  worked closely with Angie, our Welfare Officer who was fostering Suki.
This relationship  proved mutually beneficial and enabled Sylvia to “fine tune” the design of these coats. Any enquiries can be made to Sylvia at: Dermapetwear Ltd, 35 Crofters Close Killamarsh, Sheffield, S21 1JH

Oscar came into us as the worst case of flea anemia we, or even our vet, had ever seen. Even his pads were white. However, his life was saved by Fred (picture below) who acted as blood donor. Oscar made a full recovery thanks to Fred.

Fred came into us a few years ago as a tiny, abandoned kitten himself and was nursed back to health.   He ended up staying with his foster carer and grew into a fine, strong cat. So he was able to help little Oscar whose life hung in the balance. Fred looking very laid back having taken everything in his stride. He was oblivious to his heroic deed but certainly appreciated the special chicken meal on his return from the vets.

Colin Found cowering at the side of a busy main road. De-hydrated, starving and the most frightened cat we have ever seen. If we put out a hand to stroke him he cowered pathetically. Someone must have really hurt this poor lad.  Colin in February 2008. Vastly improved and gained confidence by the minute.

Aslan was 7 weeks old when found dumped on an industrial estate. Filthy, frightened, covered in dirt and oil and harboring a tummy full of worms. Aslan in February 2008. Looking much more like his namesake.

Mischa came in with frostbite to his tail and ears, a broken leg, so thin he couldn’t stand, not in the first flush of youth and deaf as well. After having part of his tail removed and the tips of his ears, his leg healed, he went on to make a full recovery turning into a huge fluffy moggy. We found him a wonderful home with a lady who adores him and walks him round the garden on a lead – which he loves. He rules the roost and is thoroughly spoilt - his favourite treat is to be hand fed chicken (only the best breast meat of course!)

Alanna with her one day old kittens. She had her babies on someone’s doorstep but was being attacked by a feral tomcat who killed one of the kittens. She was rescued by the lady living at the house who saved her life and that of her remaining three kittens. When she was collected her an hour later the little black kitten still had his placenta attached. Alanna was a brilliant mum – very laid back and gentle – amazing considering what she had gone through. Nine weeks later the kittens were homed and Alanna was spayed and quickly found a new and loving home

Glenda managing exceptionally well on only three legs. After a nasty accident and being abandoned Glenda came to us and after surgery, a long convalescence and tons of TLC Glenda is now thriving and can climb trees with the best of them. The secret is, she doesn’t let the fact she only has three legs interfere with her life.

Flossie in her new home. Sadly Flossie’s owner died leaving her all alone. However, Flossie ticked all the boxes for her new owner who wanted a cat over seven years old – Flossie is eight, a cat who loves sitting on laps. Flossie loves nothing better and one who was happy indoors – this is just what Flossie ordered! All in all a wonderful success story. Flossie was so lucky as she only had to wait a couple of weeks for her “fairy godmother” to grant her wish

HAND REARING four black kittens. These little guys were abandoned by their mum and came to us at three weeks old. This is Angie, our Welfare Officer and Miracle Worker making sure they get the best of everything. These are but a fraction of the number of kittens Angie has hand-reared and who have gone to their loving new homes to be spoilt for the rest of their lives
